When we first made the plans for advent and I knew we were going to make something for grandparents-- I started researching ideas. I found several links to Snowman Ornaments and thought they were so cute and had to make them for the grandparents (and one for US too!)
Materials needed:
- Large shatterproof ornament balls
- White acrylic craft paint
- Black acrylic craft paint or Sharpie marker
- Orange acrylic craft paint
- Small paint brushes (or a toothpick or pen)
- Wet rags or babywipes
Slather paint on hand:
Get child to hold out their hand and then place it in their hand. Press their fingers a bit onto the ornament to get a good print.
I added noses on the first one, and then had difficulty making the mouth not look too far down, so I changed it up on the others and did the eyes and mouth first...then the nose. I used a sharpie instead of black paint for the eyes and mouth. I dipped a pen in orange paint for the nose. OH and I also used my pen dipped in white paint to make "snow" coming down.
The ones I saw online had top hats, so I did this on one of the ornaments and wasn't impressed.... at all. My drawing of a top hat is sad as you can see...
So I decided to do colorful tobogans and scarves. I thought this looked cute--even though I still didn't do that great of a job on painting.
We made little giftbags to put them in:
And on the giftbag, attached a little poem:
These aren't just 5 snowmen
as anyone can see...
I made them with my hand
which is a part of me.
Now every year at Christmastime
when you deck your halls,
you can look back and remember
Christmas 2010
when my hand was just this small!
Merry Christmas!

These were a fun project....but since we have 3 sets of grandparents AND ours....Eight ornaments (4 each) wore me out!! They turned out so cute, they were the effort though.
Love the scarves instead of the top hats! Gift bags are super cute too!
